I'm committed to fostering communities where neighbors watch out for each other, and residents collaborate with social services, the police, and local organizations to curb violent crime and enhance pedestrian safety.<h5>My priorities:</h5><ul><li>Investing in pedestrian safety and community connectivity through infrastructure upgrades, including <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C7VbF6zs_0N/?img_index=1&amp;igsh=ZnV0bWgxeXl3bWcw" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">successfully advocating for design changes on the Kingshighway repave</a> and fully funding the <a href="https://archive.ph/Niwh7" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Compton Hill Water Tower engineering study</a>.</li><li>Championing community-led public safety strategies, focusing on mental health and youth crime prevention.</li><li>Advocating for police accountability, including working on and co-sponsoring <a href="https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/city-laws/board-bills/boardbill.cfm?bbDetail=true&amp;BBId=16396" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">BB185/Community Control Over Police Surveillance (CCOPS)</a> legislation, while supporting officer retention and training.</li></ul>

Safe, clean neighborhoods

City services like trash pickup, pothole repair, and tree trimming are essential. They do more than just keep our neighborhood clean—they strengthen trust between residents and the government, and enhance both our community's health and economy.<h5>My priorities:</h5><ul><li>Securing funding for essential city services and infrastructure.</li><li>Advocating for competitive salaries for city employees.</li><li>Prioritizing pedestrian safety in all infrastructure projects.</li><li>Implementing data-driven decision making for city services.</li><li>Allocating Ward Capital to improve streets and sidewalks.</li></ul>

Providing basic services for residents is one of our government's greatest responsibilities. I prioritize making sure constituents receive city services to maintain pride in our community and to support our city's economic growth.

Improving city services

I support inclusive growth and policies that help small businesses thrive.<h5>My priorities:</h5><ul><li>Reducing the number of vacant buildings in the ward by collaborating with stakeholders and passing legislation like <a href="https://www.propvstl.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Proposition V</a> to hold absentee landlords accountable.</li><li>Cutting bureaucracy for businesses as chairman of the <a href="https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/aldermen/committees/committee.cfm?comId=38" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Special Committee on Reducing Red Tape</a>, where we have held listening sessions for businesses owners and are developing legislation to support small businesses in the City. </li><li>Enforcing our prevailing wage law to make sure workers get the pay they deserve.</li></ul>

Housing is a right. Everyone in our city should have access to safe, stable, and sustainable housing.<h5>My Priorities:</h5><ul><li>Supporting affordable housing options in the ward, such as the development of Fanning Middle School.</li><li>Advocating for <a href="https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/city-laws/ordinances/ordinance.cfm?ord=71729" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">regulation</a> and <a href="https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/city-laws/board-bills/boardbill.cfm?bbDetail=true&amp;BBId=16504" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">taxation</a> of short-term rental properties, which can strain on housing options and decrease affordability.</li><li>Cosponsoring legislation that protects tenants, such as <a href="https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/city-laws/board-bills/boardbill.cfm?bbDetail=true&amp;BBId=15271" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Right to Counsel</a>. </li></ul>

I put people at the heart of policymaking decisions and processes.<h5>My priorities:</h5><ul><li>Empowering constituent-office communications, including creating a standalone <a href="https://www.6thwardstl.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">6th Ward website</a> and shared <a href="mailto:6thward@stlouis-mo.gov" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">staff email inbox</a> for faster response time.</li><li>Sponsoring legislation to increase transparency at City Hall, such as <a href="https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/city-laws/upload/legislative/boardbills/introduced/BB63%20Combined%203.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">BB63</a>, which enhances public access to voting records throughout the legislative process at the Board of Aldermen.</li><li>Collaborating with local organizations to share information on city services and legislation.</li></ul>

As the only Puerto Rican elected official in the state of Missouri—and one of the less than 3% of Latino elected officials nationwide— I raise awareness about issues that affect the Puerto Rican community. We must continue to mobilize the diaspora and advocate for Latinos in leadership and policymaking.<h5>My priorities:</h5><ul><li>Promoting economic opportunities and improving the quality of life for Puerto Ricans in St. Louis, the mainland, and on the island.</li><li>Preserving the culture and identity of the Puerto Rican community.</li><li>Supporting a self-determination and decolonization process in Puerto Rico recognized by the U.S. Congress.</li><li>Fighting for greater Latino representation in leadership roles at every level of government.</li></ul>

My career as a reporter took me to Florida, where I worked at the Tallahassee Democrat, The Tampa Tribune, and WFLA, an NBC affiliate.Eventually, I found my way back home to St. Louis. I started a communications business and had the honor of working with the Ferguson Commission, which showed me how powerful community voices can be in shaping real change. Later, as Director of Communications for the ACLU of Missouri, I focused on issues like voter rights and criminal justice reform—using stories to inspire action and make a difference.After working in advocacy, I took my communications skills to the private sector, where I counseled St. Louis-based nonprofit, government and corporate clients in their marketing and public relations efforts. Before I was elected to public office, I served as a vice president of corporate reputation at FleishmanHillard, helping the firm's Fortune 500 clients with executive communications and their diversity and sustainability programs.<h4>Let’s Build a Better St. Louis, Together</h4>Our city faces its challenges, but we can’t let them overshadow the positive progress unfolding around us.
